Magnus Brunner, EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration

On May 16, 2025, we had the honor of welcoming Magnus Brunner, Commissioner for Internal affairs and migration of the European Union, to the Audimax of the Technical University of Munich, in cooperation with the TUM Speakers Series and as part of European Union Week 2025.

In his keynote, Commissioner Brunner addressed one of the most urgent and complex challenges of our time: migration and security in Europe. With a clear and forward-looking message, he called for clarity, cooperation, and above all, courage in navigating the future of the European project.
“The European Union is not perfect—but it remains one of the greatest peace projects in human history.”
Commissioner Brunner reminded us what is at stake:

Peace – from conflict to cooperation; Nobel Peace Prize 2012
 Prosperity – €4.1 trillion in intra-EU trade (2023)
People – over 16 million participants in Erasmus+, Schengen, and eurozone mobility

In a time marked by uncertainty and fragmentation, his remarks served as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, shared values, and the next generation of European leadership.

A heartfelt thank you to Commissioner Brunner for his inspiring words, to Professor Juliane Winkelmann and Professor Joachim Henkel for their warm welcome, and to all students and guests who joined us for this timely exchange.

Thank you to Annet Wöhrle for moderating the event.
