Kofi Annan

Former UN Secretary-General, Founder of the Kofi Annan Foundation and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate

On February 15, 2018, the TUM Speakers Series proudly welcomed Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Founder and Chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation to the Audimax at TUM’s main campus for an insightful keynote and discussion.

As part of the collaboration with our dear partner Munich Security Conference (MSC) we had the great honour of hosting Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Statesman Kofi Annan for a speech and discussion.

Through his impressive speech he emphasised the importance of preserving democracy and its values such as free speech. He further explained and warned of the changing role of the internet, once the pinpoint of free expression it is now being misused by autocratic regimes as a mean of oppression and social control. Thus encouraging our audience, mostly students, to stand up for democracy.

On August 18, 2018 TUM Speakers Series received the news of Kofi Annan’s passing with deep sorrow as the world had lost one of its brightest flames in the fight for democracy and peace.
